I installed the Italian MUI and installed the Italian VC# Express Edition, and the designer worked just fine. I'm at a loss to explain why its failing on your machine.

Hi Robert!

I recently found out that I (probably) have been using Beta2 of VS2005 according to this value in my setup.ini from VS2005 DVD:

BannerName=Microsoft®
Visual Studio® 2005 Beta 2 Setup

I've downloaded my copy of VS2005 from MSDN 9 months ago so I'll try to get another version and see will I get the same "error" :)

dzingoni:
Imagine you want to add a connection and after the window opens you just switch the selection from UTF-8 to UTF-16 ... a click on UTF-16 and the window closes in the same way, with no error message, before entering any database name.

Same thing here :(

My little contribution to the problem .....
After MUCH experimentation, and much help from Robert (thank you again) I finally got into the situation in which it was impossible to remove or reinstall VS 2005. So after days of pain ... I actually reinstalled my laptop. It was running since feb 2003 ..... so a lot of work, dowloads and updates ...
But after all that the System.Data.SQLite is working as expected, no strange behaviours (like windows closing and so on ....)

So what's the conclusion? VS2005, Dot.Net and all that are a quite complicated beast, and Microsoft after 25 years of software development is still unable to create something that can cleanly install and uninstall. Period.

So if you run into some strange behaviour, and you have installed or changed or removed ... well it's better to start from a new clean installation. In the long run it's the safest and quickest solution.
Thank you again for all the help.

I have same problem. On windows 2003 server 64bit and Visual Studio 2008 work fine, but on windows XP 32bit Czech and Visual Studio 2008 not. Visual Studio 2008 SP1 doesn’t resolve this problem. I get two different dialogs on windows 2003 is good, but on windows XP not.

Sorry for my bad English. I am read only :)

i think is some error in "frameworkservice.exe",or the wizard change dotnet runtime state.
some times, it work fine, but some times, the data source setting wizard crashed. then i close all programs and kill "frameworkservice.exe", try again , some case it's work

Re: "Add Connection" closes w/o error msg

I download SQLite-1.0.59.0-binaries.zip, unpack, run install.exe and check Visual Studio 2008. Result doesn’t work. After I run install.exe and uncheck Visual Studio 2008, install SQLite-1.0.59.0-setup.exe and check Visual Studio 2008. Result doesn’t work. After I run install.exe and uncheck Visual Studio 2008 and uninstall SQLite-1.0.59.0, install Visual Studio 2008 SP1, install SQLite-1.0.59.0-setup.exe and check Visual Studio 2008. Result doesn’t work, but components SQLite add to toolbox.

I'm not sure what the problem is. I'll have to do some research.

Re: "Add Connection" closes w/o error msg

Hi,

Did someone find a solution for this?
I installed 1.0.60.0 on vs2008 SP1. First day it was working OK, 2nd day I get the Unexpected error occurred. When deleting the connection and adding it again I get the wrong add connection dialog, like in the screenshots a few posts above.

Thank you

Fixed... Uninstall 1.0.60.0, run devenv.exe /resetuserdata, install 1.0.60.0 and the connection dialog is back to normal...

Re: "Add Connection" closes w/o error msg

Thanks for this solution. I added sqlite.NET 1.0.0.64 recently and also had this error in a VS 2008 SP1 (german localization).

This would definitly be a good addition to the server explorer page in the help file as well or as a troubleshhoting page.

Re: "Add Connection" closes w/o error msg

System.Data.SQLite was working perfectly, then i installed FirebirdClient 2.5.1 and FirebirdDDEXProvider 2.0.4 (as outlined inthe included readme). As a result, neither SQLite nor Firebird were working (the Firebird UI also crashes upon selecting anything, so same error here). So i removed FirebirdSQL and undid my changes to machine.config and the registry, but SQLite still didn't work. I removed & reinstalled SQLite, no change. I removed SQLite, called devenv with the /reset... switch, reinstalled SQLite, still doesn't work. Then i completely deinstalled VS2008Pro, reinstalled, installed SQLite, still broken.

<edit> I forgot, i'm using VS2008 Professional on Windows XP x64 with all updates availiable. SQLite is 1.0.56.0(setup.exe)

I'm having this issue as well, on VS2008 Professional, Windows XP 32-bit, latest SQLite which is 1.0.65.
